Equinox was formed in 1993 and has won critical acclaim for its versatility and capacity to entertain a wide range of audiences from children of all ages to serious music lovers.

Chris Hankin – flute

After graduationg from Sheffield University, Chris Hankin studied the flute at the Guildhall School of Music with Trevor Wye and later with William Bennett and Jonathan Snowdon. She has since had a successful and varied career ranging from orchestras such as the LPO to ballet companies large and small. She has also appeared as a soloist at the Purcell Room.

Lucy Foster – oboe

Lucy Foster was educated at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester and then at the Guildhall School of Music in London where she studied with Jimmy Brown and Anthony Camden. Having held posts at the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House Covent Garden she is now busy pursuing her freelance career.

Elizabeth Drew – clarinet

studied the clarinet at the Guildhall School of Music in London and also in Germany. She returned to England in 1993 and has since enjoyed an increasingly varied musical career. This encompasses symphony and chamber orchestra playing, solo work, much contemporary music and education work. She plays regularly with Kokovo, the contemporary ensemble of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and has recently recorded works for clarinet and string quartet for ASV.

Vanessa King – horn

Since graduating from the Royal College of Music, Vanessa King has had a busy and varied freelance career. This ranges from working with the BBC Symphony Orchestra to the pop group Oasis. She is now the horn player for the Bootleg Beatles. She also runs her own children’s music group and has just completed work on her first CD for children entitled Jemma’s Journey and Abi’s Adventure for which she wrote the lyrics.

Kim Murphy – bassoon

Kim Murphy attended the Junior Department of the Royal Northern College of Music and continued her studies at the Guildhall School of Music. Since then she has had a rich and varied freelance career playing with the BBC Concert Orchestra, London Mozart Players, English National Opera, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Welsh National Opera. She now juggles all this with teaching at the Purcell School and running Tuneful Tots.

Timothy Murray – piano

Timothy Murray was born in Glasgow in 1965. After two years at Wells Cathedral Music School he continued his studies at the Royal College of Music with Yonty Solomon and Anthony Milner. He was an exhibitioner and won numerous prizes in addition to gaining B. Mus and M. Mus degrees. Timothy has toured extensively abroad and has recorded for BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM. He also performed in the Purcell Room in the 1992 Park Lane Group series. In addition his compositions have received acclaim both here and abroad.
